Dubai Police bust traffic fine discount scam, urge public vigilance
Fraudsters used stolen cards to clear fines, collected cash from victims
DUBAI Police have arrested several individuals involved in a fraudulent scheme that falsely promised discounts on traffic fines through unofficial channels.
The suspects targeted residents through social media adverts, claiming they could secure reductions of 30 to 70 percent on fines.
Police have now confirmed the entire operation was a sophisticated scam.
Fake traffic fine discounts
Victims were convinced to meet the fraudsters in person, where they would pay the full amount of their traffic fines upfront. The scammers would then use stolen credit card data to clear the fines on the system.
Once the payment was reflected as successful, they would collect half the fine amount in cash from the victim – posing it as their “discounted service.”
Dubai Police in action
Investigations by the Anti-Fraud Centre within Dubai Police’s General Department of Criminal Investigation found that the credit card information was obtained either through cyber scams or bought from illegal sources.
The fraud involved both data theft and financial deception. Authorities warned that individuals who knowingly use these services could also face legal consequences.

Dubai Police emphasised that all traffic fines must be paid through official platforms only. Any unofficial methods are deemed illegal and punishable.
